I. THE MIRACULOUS RESPONSORY OF ST ANTHONY OF PADUA

IF then you ask for miracles,
Death, error, all calamities,
The leprous stain and demons fly,
And health succeeds infirmities.

The sea obeys and fetters break,
And lifeless limbs thou dost restore:
Whilst treasures lost are found again,
When young or old thine aid implore.

All dangers vanish at thy prayer,
And direst need doth quickly flee,
Let those who know, thy power proclaim
Let Paduans say—These are of thee.

Repeat: The sea obeys, etc.

To the Father, Son, may glory be,
And Holy Spirit eternally.

Repeat: The sea obeys, etc.

V) Pray for us, St Anthony.
R) That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY

O God, may the votice solemnity (commemoration) of St Anthony, Thy confessor, and Doctor give joy to the Church that it may be ever defended by spiritual aid and deserve to enjoy eternal happiness. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER TO OBTAIN A GRACE OR RECOVER A LOST OBJECT

O GREAT St Anthony, apostle full of goodness who hast received from God the gift of working miracles (of restoring lost objects), assist me at this moment that by thy help I may obtain the favour I ask (recover the object I have lost), and that I may thus glorify more and more the Lord Who operates by thee such great marvels. Amen.

AN EFFICACIOUS PRAYER

O WHITE lily of purity, sublime example of poverty, true mirror of humility, resplendent star of sanctity, O Glorious St Anthony, who didst enjoy the sweet privilege of receiving into thy arms the Infant Jesus: I beseech thee to take me under thy powerful protection. Thou, in whom the power of working miracles shines forth among the other gifts of God, have pity upon me and come to my aid in this my great need.... Cleanse my heart from every disorderly affection, obtain for me a true contrition for my sins and a great love of God and of my neighbour that serving my God faithfully in this life I may come to praise, enjoy and bless Him eternally with thee in Paradise. Amen.

THE CHAPLET OF THE SAINT

It is composed of 13 beads. On each bead say one Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be to the Father, preceded by one of the following invocations.

If then you ask for miracles:
Go to St Anthony.

I. Death. St Anthony, at whose word the dead arose, pray for the agonising and the faithful departed.

After each Invocation, say once:
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory.

II. Error. St Anthony, preserve us from all error, and pray for the Pope and the Church.

III. Calamities. St Anthony, preserve us from all calamities we deserve for our sins.

IV. Leprous stain. St Anthony, guard our souls from all impurity and our bodies from infirmity.

V. Demons Fly. St Anthony, terror of demons, preserve us from the snares of the devil.

VI. Health succeeds infirmities. St Anthony, cure by thy intercession the sick and those suffering in soul and body.

VII. The sea obeys. St Anthony, watch over all travellers, bring them safely to their destination, and deliver us from the storms of our passions.

XI. Lifeless limbs thou dost restore. St Anthony, preserve us from all accidents and mutilation, that we may serve God with sound bodies and souls.

X. Treasures lost are found again. St Anthony, restorer of things lost, restore to us all we may lose spiritually and temporally.

XI. All dangers vanish at thy prayer. St Anthony, protect us in all perils of soul and body.

XII. Direst need doth quickly flee. St Anthony, lover of the poor, help us in our needs, and obtain work and bread for all in want.

XIII. Let those who know thy power proclaim. St Anthony, we thank God for all the favours bestowed on thee, and beseech thy protection in life and death.

THREE PRAYERS TO JESUS IN THE ARMS OF ST ANTHONY, IN ANY AFFLICTION OR ANXIETY

O LOVING Jesus, source of grace and mercy I cast myself at Thy feet, and I implore Thee, through the love which St Anthony bore Thee, and through the compassionate Heart with which in Thy bitter agony Thou didst look down upon Thy mother from the cross and commend her to the care of St John, to look upon me, a poor sinner, with eyes of Thy boundless mercy. Come, as my loving Father and God, to my assistance in my great need and anxiety. In Thee do I trust, in Thee do I hope. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory.

O good Jesus, loving Redeemer and Sanctifier! I cast myself at Thy feet, and I implore Thee through the love which St Anthony bore Thee, and through Thy precious blood shed for us, to turn Thy compassionate and fatherly eyes upon me, a poor sinner whom Thou didst free, on the cross, from the chains of the enemy. Comfort me in my anxiety and affliction, for in Thee alone do I place all my confidence and my hope. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory.

O loving Jesus, sure and sole refuge of my needy soul! I cast myself at Thy feet, and I implore Thee through the love which St Anthony bore Thee, and through Thy love for him which induced Thee to come to him in the form of a little child and to comfort and caress him. I implore Thee to come to me in my great need and affliction, that I may know how precious is Thy presence in a soul that hopes in Thee.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory.

1. Glorious St Anthony, you who were born under the protection of Mary, and who consecrated to her from the age of five, the lily of your virginity; you who put the demon to flight by the Sign of the Cross, obtain for us a tender devotion to our Blessed mother, and the strength to triumph over all the attacks of our infernal enemy.

After each salutation recite one
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory.
